Ingredients
- 2 3/4 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cups buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 1 cup raisins, soaked in hot water for 20 minutes, then drained

Instructions
- Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in mixing bowl. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Combine buttermilk and egg. (Reserve 2 tablespoons for brushing over top of loaf.) Add buttermilk/egg mixture and raisins to dry ingredients, stirring until blended. Turn out on floured board. Knead until smooth. Shape into round. Put loaf into one well-greased 13x9x2” pan or cast iron skillet Score a 4” cross in top of each loaf. Brush with reserved buttermilk/egg mixture as an egg wash. Sprinkle with decorative sparkly sugar, optional. Bake at 350° for 40-50 minutes or until golden.
