Yippee! I’m finally starting my blog! I know, I know. Welcome to the modern world, Jan. But I always have so much to say and I’ve been afraid my blog installments would turn into mini-novels! So I promise to keep them short and sweet! I’ve also promised myself that I wouldn’t go back, re-think my copy or edit myself.
One take and that’s it. So here goes….
I’m kicking off my first blog with a big ol’ smile. It comes from my adorable burro named Zanny! (short for zanahoria, which means carrot in Spanish!) He’s a big (BIG!) part of my pet family and he makes me laugh every day.
(In the coming months you’re going to get to know my furry family one by one. It’s going to take a while. I have tons of pets!)
I chose to write about Zanny because this holiday season is all about family, the things you cherish and the importance of laughing and smiling through the hectic and often very stressful season of mall shopping, rushing to buy gifts and wondering why in the heck we put ourselves through this every year! Family can be anyone, even a big ol’ burro who, by the way, does not believe he is a beast. Zanny fancies himself an indoor house pet, like a Maltese! HAHA. He can’t quite figure out why we leave him in the back 40!
Anyway, I thought you’d get a kick out of Zanny’s smile (before and after lunch!)

Laugh and giggle and stop to smell the alfalfa!
Two parallel 40-year careers in media and in food that still excite me to this day. 24 farm animals that remind me that there are always needs much greater than mine. A tiny bit of free time here and there to go fly-fishing. And a kitchen that has become the joyful and busy heart of my home and my world.
