Step 1 All you need are 4 cinderblocks (three 8x8x16’s and one H Block) some twigs and a grate!
Step 2 Assemble the blocks as shown! (The first 8 by 8 block is your base. Set that down with the holes to the side so you have a solid top. Then, the H block goes on top of that with the holes up. This opening on the side is the beginning of your vent or flue. The third block stands up against the side. That’s going to allow the air flow to go in through the side and up to create your heat!)
Step 3 Grab some twigs. You can even use fast starting charcoal once you start’er up! Before you know it you’ll have a roaring fire! (Once you get the fire going you can use bigger twigs and then thicker branches or charcoal.
Step 4 Find some grates that fit over the top hole of the cinderblock
Step 5 Start cooking! I pan-grilled up some Italian Sausage in about 15 minutes! It was incredibly fast and so delicious!
My life? It’s been a gift with a big ol’ bow wrapped around it. Two parallel 40-year careers in media and in food that still excite me to this day. 24 farm animals that remind me that there are always needs much greater than mine. A tiny bit of free time here and there to go fly-fishing. And a kitchen that has become the joyful and busy heart of my home and my world.
